An introduction to the way science works written in Carl Sagan's characteristically poetic style. So many people seem to be uninterested or even afraid of science. If there is an antidote to that then this is it. I would also recommend this book to scientists. So many fellow science students I talk to don't actually seem to know anything about how science works. To them science is just a bunch of facts. This book would be a good start in remedying that. In fact, the critical thinking Sagan promotes really could and should be applied anywhere and everywhere.

This book is one of the classics in science communication and rational thinking. Sagan promotes science and identified irrational thinking using a gentle, "lets educate people" which I enjoy. I find many other such books more aggressive and quite scathing of psuedoscience. Sagan criticises pseudoscience, but in a less insulting way than other authors, which perhaps is more likely to sway those who currently hold pseudoscientific beliefs.
A pity he isn't still alive to provide us with more such books.

I refer back to this book often. It's been my guide to figuring out whether or not something or someone is trying to take advantage of my gullibility. Carl Sagan's enthusiastic view of science shows that it's a living breathing process that has an art to it. I wish I had read it in school. I wish it was part of the curriculm. It's invaluable.

A brilliant look on the danger of pseudoscience and quackery, why people believe in strange things, and skepticism in general. This book is a definite must-have for any educated skeptic who wants more ammunition against the idiocy of insane beliefs, such as alien abductions, homeopathy, and "ghost hunting".
If I could give this book a rating higher than 5 stars, I would.
