First published in 2007, "The Dawkins Letters" has already been reprinted.David Robertson wanted there to be an intelligent Christian response to "The God Delusion" - so he wrote an open letter to Professor Richard Dawkins, posted on his church website. This, somehow, found its way onto Dawkins' own website - where it generated the largest response, before or since. The ferocity, and shallowness of thinking, of some of the responses spurred David to write further letters, which forms the basis of this book. They explain a credible basis for faith that counteracts the 'atheist myths' that so much popular discussion is based upon.

Very hard to write an unbiased review of this book as I disagree with the writer so strongly. I do think he attempts to address the issues raised by Richard Dawkins in the God Delusion but this collection of letters appears to be more of a critique of the Dawkins atheist movement rather than atheism per se. Richard Dawkins is not THE atheist and we don't all agree with all his views other than the basic principle that there is, in all probability, no God. I found many of the arguments put forward here illogical e.g. God exists because it says so in the Bible and the Bible is the word of God. There was also the inevitable rehashing of the same old Hitler and Stalin were Atheists therefore an Atheist state is bad; all rather predictable and baseless. I found the proposition that we understand what is right and wrong which means there must be a God indicative of the arguments throughout the book. They start well, raising interesting questions then make a huge leap to the answer, must be God with no real foundation. On the whole I didn't really find any challenge to my atheism but it's always nice to be reminded why you don't believe
