Bet Borgeson's 'Colored Pencil for the Serious Beginner' is a magnificent book that demonstrates the vast scope of color pencils. Unlike some books, she does not try to achieve a realistic 'photograph' finish to her drawings, by using burnishing, but presents studies that show the exclusive qualities of color pencil art.
I find her work truly inspiring, and for those who don't like the close-up effect then hang it on a wall and step back... and prepare to be overwhelmed by the unique and stunning beauty.
She takes coloring right out the basic 'trees are green' world and presents an absorbing and inspiring look through the artistic eye. Her book presents endless scope for exploration for those who wish to create something other than faithful reproductions of a subject.
She keeps instruction simple and uncluttered, cutting through the pedantics presented in many other how to 'paint/colour' books, and imagination is the only requirement to enjoying this book and letting it take you on a magnificent journey. If you cannot draw... trace... it doesn't matter how you create the outline... but, please, let your imagination be set free by her guidance in how to use colour.
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would...
