Reviews
Gr 9 Up-In this sequel to City of Bones (S & S, 2007), the nonstop action continues. The Shadowhunters are battling a world of demons that few people can see. Guided by the laws of the Clave, these hunters balance fighting with the other more mundane aspects of life-love, betrayal, and confusion. Jace, the fiercest teenage Shadowhunter, seems determined to make everyone around him angry, and is looked upon with suspicion because his father, Valentine, is out to rule the world. Meanwhile, love triangles abound, vampires are reborn, and general teenage angst blossoms among a group of friends and siblings. Set in an alternative present-day Manhattan, the story comes complete with Britney Spears references and even, ironically, refers to the scientific CSI. Well written in both style and language, it compares favorably to others in this genre. The human characters are well developed and quite believable. The whole book is like watching a particularly good vampire/werewolf movie, and it leaves readers waiting for the next in the series. Watch this one fly off the shelves.-Jennifer-Lynn Draper, Children's Literature Consultant, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.

City of Ashes; the long awaited sequel of Cassandra Clare's debut novel. Just as action packed, just as seductive, just as enticing as it predecessor, if not more so. Weaving another magical story involving Clary, Jace and the other Shadow Hunters, Clare deepens the plot that left us hanging in City of Bones. 10/10

Cassandra Clare is an exceptional author and i would recommend her books to anyone.
in her Mortal Instruments series she has the perfect blend of mystery, action, adventure and romance.
filled twists, both unexpected and expected this is a book you simply cannot put down without a fight.
she is highly original which is refreshing if you want a break from such books as twilight (not that the twilight saga isn't a great read also)
five out of five i cannot wait until Cassandra writes and releases more books.

Another great book from Cassandra Clare, surprisingly couldn't put it down and read it in a night. A little darker than the first, the characters in City of Ashes get more development and become more intriguing. The romance aspect is also amped up considerably from the first book, this was both good and bad. As I don't want to spoil the plot, the romantic interest between Clary and Jace becomes extremely complicated but exceptionally interesting (Unfortunately Clare becomes predictable and sadly boring in the conclusion to this relationship).
The plot is still easy to follow and keeps the reader engaged as the group battle Valentine, demons, vampires, werewolves and not to mention those raging hormones.
