At first glance this book seems to be very basic with only common tells listed that "you already know". After a read through or two however the changes in your game will be stagering. It's one thing knowing theory, but it's another thing knowing how to apply your knowledge, which is exactly what this book delivers.

A must have for any poker book collection.

When first published, this book was ground-breaking in the material discussed and the presentation of that material. Caro analyses the psychology and body language of poker players – essentially about those visible physical observations known as ‘tells’. The author introduces some laws and groups certain tells together for ease of understanding. This book assumes you can play poker at such a level that thinking about the game mechanics is almost second-nature; hence, you can focus your attention on observing other players around you during play. It is debatable how much value this book is to you considering most serious or astute players nowadays have read or use these tells as camouflage; but you will find a few players and situations where it may help to save a bet or win a pot. It’s a must read, if only read once.

This is enjoyable and amusing to read if you don't take it too seriously, though it does make you think more about how people's behaviour relates to their hand.

While the tone is "tongue-in-cheek", there are some interesting points in here, and some of the case studies are both useful and funny. Things such as how someone stacks their chips and whether they're paying attention or not (or pretending not to) are discussed, with concrete strategies for dealing with these situations.

The pictures showing people's body language during different situations are pretty dated, which can be a bit distracting, but again if you're not taking it too seriously, it actually adds to the amusement factor.

Nothing too revolutionary in this book, but a good review of a lot of simple tells. Some of the photography isn't fantastic, but it usually illustrates the points they are trying to show.

This book was very helpful and simple to understand. The book gives you the basic knowledge of the tell which is all it can do because everyone is different. The principal is still the same and it more than helps you apply it to each individual person. Must read for anyone who is thinking of playing outside of their local home game.

Once you have mastered the advanced techniques of playing the game that is poker, you need to learn the players around you. of course, not every player is the same, and will not have the same tells (something that slightly informs you what cards the opposition has). this is where the book fails to deliver.
