Gr 2-4-These eye-catching books have engaging covers and colorful photos liberally sprinkled throughout. Brief bits of text provide basic material on the physical characteristics, diet, behaviors, housing, selection, and care of each animal. Fact boxes appear on most of the spreads and each volume ends with a brief quiz, frequently asked questions, related organizations, and Web sites. These offerings are somewhat similar to, though simpler and less informative than, titles in Helen Piers's "Young Pet Owner's Guides" series (Barron's) and the "ASPCA Pet Care Guides for Kids" series (DK). Foran's titles will appeal to animal lovers and will serve well if your pet collection needs perking up.-Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
