Yager, a journalist, approaches the subject of business etiquette from the point of view that proper protocol will help the practitioner get to the top and stay there. From her research she has identified the six basic principles of business etiquette: being on time; being discreet; being courteous, pleasant, and positive; being concerned with others; dressing appropriately; and having the ability to write and speak correctly. She also covers such topics as international etiquette, business meals, gift giving, and changing jobs. Her coverage, while not as thorough as the excellent Letitia Baldrige's Complete Guide to Executive Manners ( LJ 10/1/85), is helpful and more current.
