Architects, enthusiasts and professionals within the building trade should find "Building with Lime" a valuable reference tool. This technical manual is a starting point for those considering lime as a building material. It is also a general reference for the broad range of uses for lime in construction. Drawing on the authors' experience of using lime in building, it provides the reader with a wealth of practical advice that includes: a clear explanation of all the major uses of lime in building such as mortars and plasters, painting and finishes, ceilings and foundations, repair, maintenance and conservation; and a chapter on testing and standards covering limestone recognition, and field testing to ensure reliable materials and workmanship for the production and use of building limes.

This book offers many uses for lime. Many of which are not used today in preference for products using cement. The introduction offers many reasons why lime should be used in preference to cement, mainly to do with its reusability and ease of dismantling. Obviously the success of cement stems from it be an engineered, stronger and reliable product. The book delves into the various forms of lime, production of and testing of. Applications for lime include lime washes, lime mortars, interior plaster, lime renders, decorative plaster, the use of lime in stabilization of varying earth construction methods, the use of lime in floors and roads and lime concrete all of which go into a good depth of detail, to the point that you could give this a go yourself. I bought this book to gain information on traditional methods with a mind to review the appropriateness of their application in current industry. This book delivered.
