"The Book of Mormon" is one of the most influential - as well as controversial - religious documents in American history, and is regarded as sacred scripture by followers around the world, including members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the fourth-largest religious body in the United States. According to Mormon belief, "The Book of Mormon" was inscribed on golden plates by ancient prophets. It contains stories of ancient peoples migrating from the Near East to the Americas, and also explains that Jesus Christ appeared to the New World after his resurrection. The golden plates were discovered in upstate New York and translated by Joseph Smith Jr, under the guidance of an angel, Moroni. Following this divine revelation, Smith founded the Mormon religion, which now comprises more than 12.5 million members worldwide.

Something that worries me about the book of Mormon is that by claiming that that Jesus visited the America's and designated it 'Zion', it inadvertently (or deliberately) justifies the genocide, cultural suppression and the stealing of land inflicted by Europeans to the Indigenous native Americans. According to the book of Mormon, the Native Americans are "Lamanites", descending from Laman and Lemuel two brothers of a family that migrated to the Americas from Israel who rebelled against God (Nephites on the other hand were the followers of God (coincidentally depicted in the book of Mormon as Northern Europeans!) who were decedents of Nephi who did not rebel against God - all according to the book of Mormon of course). Mormons believe that they attained their dark skin as a curse from God. That is racism, pure and simple. Shame on all people here adhere to such a belief. Perhaps Joseph Smith wanted to make up a story to justify his ownership of stolen land? And, in his arrogance, forgot that Jesus himself was of 'dark skin'. The book of Mormon inadvertently condemns Jesus Christ yet claims to be another testament of him? If you want to read Jesus' testaments, read the bible.
