Wow. Did I say, ‘Wow’? I’ll say it again. Wow. ‘Blood Ties’ is one of the most intricate, spooky, grisly, fascinating books in Hooper’s psychic FBI /Special Crimes Unit series. For those who have read the others, Hooper brings in a large number of people from other books on the series. For those who haven’t read all the books, you don’ have to, but you really should read ‘Blood Dreams’ and ‘Blood Sins’, the previous two books in the Blood trilogy [the series consists of several trilogies]. Even if you have read them, I recommend you read ‘Blood Sins’ again, because so much of ‘Ties’ relates back to the novel. The plot is so complex, yet clearly written, that I’m not going to expound upon it. Suffice to say that there are serial murders that attract the attention of the elite psychic part of the FBI, there are explosions, death, doom and destruction, there is some unspeakable monster, and there are three, count ‘em, three character plotlines as well, including Hollis Templeton [who lost her eyes in ‘Touching Evil’], Diana Briscoe and Quentin Hayes, and of course Miranda and Noah Bishop. Mega book, mega plots, mega wow.
