Rachel is being pursued by the Covern after her shunning, which provides for dramatic fights and summonings. Luckily, favourite characters such as Jenks and Al provide laughs and quips and make reading the book worthwhile. Pierce unnecessarily hangs around alot - he seems to be a last ditch effort in terms of men in Rachel's life. As usual Rachel gets herself into trouble but her solution to resolve the situation was weak.

As always Kim Harrison has delivered another adventure packed book. Rachel gets herself into more trouble than she can handle. Lucky she has some great friends in Jenks (the ever funny pixy) and Ivy. Rachel and Trent's love/hate relationship brings an unexpected twist and some memories from her childhood. I enjoyed reading this book just as much as the rest of the series.

Rachel finally seems to be getting some one-upmanship on pretty much everyone in this latest instalment. Al pretty much stays in the everafter where he continues to teach Rachel dark magic. Pierce the handsome ex ghost sticks to Rachel like glue as he tries to protect her from Al and an ever growing list of people, elves, fairies, witches etc who always seem to be after her, including the witches council who interestingly Pierce is still a member of. I really enjoyed this latest book, it includes all our favourite characters and gives some more of the back stories to the creation of witches, lay lines and the importance of gargoyles.
