This book is wonderful. It follows in details the steps a kindergarten teacher and her class take to begin to see ordinary things in the world for their artistic pontential. Together they begin to collect 'beautiful stuff'. It follows through the collection and sorting process and gives details of the teacher's and children's thinking as their learning story develops and they head in new directions. The book is very practical for teachers wondering what socially constructed learning 'looks like' in practice. The use of recycled material for collage is not a new idea but they have taken a new approach in having their learning community looking for items that are interesting and could be used again. Some interesting objects like old costume jewlery, watches and dangly earings with the sharps removed were even used in the collage area, which became literally like a treasure cove.
What a fantastic book, packed full of creative ideas for art, design and rainy day fun. With particular attention
used in using materials through recycling as opposed to purchases scrapbooking etc this book is valuable as its
ideas may save you money in arts/crafts and will help your child/teenager get into art.
