After half a century in print, this widely acclaimed autobiography is now available in a superb audio translation narrated by Academy AwardR-winning actor Ben Kingsley. The work is enduringly popular because it introduces millions of readers to Eastern spiritual thought. Yogananda's masterly storytelling epitomizes the Indian oral tradition with its wit, charm, and compassionate wisdom. The yogi begins by showing how his childhood experiences in turn-of-the-century India produced a spiritual youth in search of an enlightened teacher, continues with an account of his years of training in the hermitage of a revered master, and concludes with the highlights of a period, beginning in 1920, during which he lived and taught in America. Yogananda sensitively interprets not only his own spiritual evolution but also his relationship with elements of the West's spiritual tradition, such as the story of Adam and Eve, providing a penetrating look at the ultimate mysteries of human existence. Bibliographical footnotes, which would have interrupted Kingsley's magnificent narration, are thoughtfully included in an accompanying booklet. This extraordinary work will greatly enrich any library.‘James Dudley, Copiague, N.Y.

I read the Autobiography of a Yogi 3 years ago and it struck me instantly. I have bought several copies, and given them all away. This is one of the most beautiful books ever written, and words do not do it justice. I would encourage any reader to sit and read it with an open heart and be receptive to its message - that we can experience God ourselves in this lifetime if we so desire. If it connects with you, I would encourage you to join the Self Realization Fellowship and receive the lessons - this is the greatest spiritual teaching the world has ever seen - so complete, comprehensive and pure.

Paramahansa Yogananda was a great spiritual master of India, who went to America to disseminate the teachings of Kriya Yoga - the highway to soul liberation in God. As a self realized master, his aim was to illustrate through his own life, that the human potential is unlimited, and that we can experience God - each one, as infinite Bliss consciousness. Through self surrender to God and service to mankind, one can discover the portals to true freedom. The spiritual experiences described in this book, encourage us to develop a deep personal relationship with the Divine, and to trial the tested scientific methods of Yoga which ultimately will lead us to our our spiritual liberation. This is a must read for any truth seeker, and one who wants to know what the purpose of life is all about. From my own experience of reading this book,it has greatly enhanced my own life and has propelled me to further self improvement. The benefit derived from the soul and heart of this book, and his other teachings, I would not trade for the whole world.

This book is a really well-written autobiography. It is filled with Parmahansa Yogananda's adventures and spriritual experiences. You do not have to be a yogi or one interested in yoga to appreciate this book. There are truly magical stories in this book. Paranormal experienecs and events make it an excellent read. We not only read about Parmahansa Yogananda's spritual journey, but also visit other wizard-like yogis with different sorts of powers. I especially like the part where we visit Babaji and Mataji, the two original yogis who spread their teachings. I would also recommend the other books in the yogi fellowship series - such as the stories/teachings of 'Sri Yukteswar'. I was so happy with this book, I wanted to spend some time in a cave in the Himalayas. A must read.
