As a volume in the "AAC" series, this book addresses the use of AAC for children and adolescents with autism to enhance their language, communication, and literacy development.The book will present an overview of important issues in autism, including history, assessment, and current research. The volume editors have invited leading experts in the fields to discuss AAC use in autism in 3 sections: AAC modalities, such as nonsymbolic communication, use of symbols and manual signing, and development of speech; AAC instructional techniques, including chapters on SCERTS, PECS, SAL, language development for young children with ASD, and problem behavior; and other related issues specific to the use of AAC for individuals with autism, such as literacy development in autism, school inclusion, and social networking.
