Just to start off, if you are expecting Mass Effect: Ascension to be a sequel to Mass Effect, you will be disappointed. The story, while set after the events of the game, focuses on different characters and events. No Shepard to be seen. That said, this book is a great read in itself and focuses more about the black ops group Cerberus, who are alluded to in side missions game but never fully explained. Quarians also take a much larger stage in this chapter.

The book is written by Drew Karpyshyn, who was the lead writer of the game and the author of Mass Effect: Revelation. Like the previous book, Ascension is very well written and carries an interesting, pretty detailed story. The only issue I have with this book is it strikes me as pretty essential to have prior knowledge of the game. If you are a fan of sci-fi stories but have never played the game, the universe may be a little hard to pick up.

All in all, Ascension is a great addition to the Mass Effect universe. If you are a fan of the game, I would easily recommend this for a buy. Thoroughly enjoyable if you know the Mass Effect universe.

I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down over the weekend.

The book is very well written and immerses the reader into the Mass Effect universe with well developed characters and great environments described in detail.

I highly recommend this to Mass Effect game fans and I believe it will play a very important role in ME2. A great sequel to Mass Effect: Revelation.
