Reviews

"...the book stands as a testimony to the growing sophistication and rigour of archaeological approaches to landscapes of past conflict and to the significant advances in techniques of research and analysis over the past twenty years. For anyone interested in studying past battlefields, this book is an essential introduction to a field that offers new insights and makes a strong case for their protection, not just as sites of historic interest but also as fragile components of the archaeological record." -- Landscape History Landscape History This attractive and well-illustrated volume explores issues surrounding the physical locations and remains of battles and other conflict-related sites in England down to the battle of Sedgemoor of 1685...All [chapters] are covered sensibly and judiciously. More importantly, this volume makes a case for a much greater role for archaeology in the interpretative process. -- Peter Gaunt The Archaeological Journal
