This book doesn't just tell you what to do, it shows you and gives you plenty of exercises to work on. In that regards it's very good. It gave me a lot to think about. It uses examples, but the problem I saw with it was that the lyric examples conform to the points she is putting across, but they are only a select few lyrics. I realized that the vast majority or lyrics, even #1 hits, do not fit into her formula. I guess it is impossible to offer real guidelines for lyric writing as a lyrics success lies in it's ability to touch the listener, which is not tangible or necessarily teachable- that's what makes it so magic.
