A Bible translation from the Lockhart Foundation that set out to reveal the various shades of meaning inherent in the original language and text. e.g. cf the NIV and the Amplified translations of Jn 3:16:
AMPLIFIED: "For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([a]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life."
NIV: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Additional meanings to words or phrases are, as you can see, inserted in parentheses.
Fee, in his and Stuarts' "How to Read the Bible For All its WOrth", dismiss this version as highly over-rated. I don't find it that helpful.
