I'm not sure when the Age changed the format of this book so that all the eateries were in alphabetical order, and you had to look at the map to figure out what was near where you wanted to eat, but the new layout is pretty annoying. I suspect this change in layout has been to bring the Cheap Eats in line with the Good Food Guide, but the authors have failed to understand that users are likely to be looking for different things--Good Food Guide readers are willing to pay top dollar for a good meal (and travel for it) while cheap eaters want a good cheap feed close to ...---at least, that's how I use my books.
Having said all that, this year's Cheap Eats seems better updated than the last one we got, especially in our neighbourhood, and has already proven its value in finding some great new places.
