Andrew Koenig is a member of the Large-Scale Programming Research Department at AT&T's Shannon Laboratory, and the Project Editor of the C++ standards committee. A programmer for more than 30 years, 15 of them in C++, he has published more than 150 articles about C++, and speaks on the topic worldwide. Barbara E. Moo is an independent consultant with 20 years' experience in the software field. I highly recommend this book for learning C++. Explanations are clear and the material presented at just the right pace. What's good about this book, as opposed to some others, is that it introduces you to high level concepts first via the Standard Template Library, while low level concepts such as pointers and arrays are postponed till Chapter 10. To me this places the emphasis in the right place, as far as writing manageable code is concerned. Exercises presented at the end of each chapter were much appreciated as a way to solidify my understanding of the material. My only small gripe was the absence of solutions to the exercises. I would highly recommend this book for a beginner at C++ (although a beginner to programming itself might be better served learning an easier language such as Python first).
