Victor Gilmore Haddox, MD, JD, served with the United States Marine Corps (Cpl) during WW II and was again activated for 11 months in the United States Army Reserve (COL) during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. As a young student, he hitchhiked through Turkey and Persia. As an adult, he has slept on Arctic snow in minus 45 degree weather without a shelter, and dry camped during high summer in Death Valley. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry and the Law. His family settled in the Los Angeles area in 1849 and played a minor but significant role in the development of Los Angeles and California.
