In 2006, Laura moved from Wiltshire to the far north of the Scottish highlands, where she had the opportunity to devote more time to her creative endeavours. The discovery of Chinese and other decorative knots inspired the opening of her shop - NorthernDawn.etsy.com - on Etsy in 2009. Her beautiful pieces of beaded and knotted jewellery are all handmade using the expert skills shared in this book. Prelims Introduction Tools and techniques Directory of knots Jewellery projects Resources, index and credits ReviewsGet knotted in the best way possible with this book and learn how to make jewellery and decorations for clothes and accessories. You don't need to buy much either, just some large holed beads and plenty of cord. I like books like this that don't involve much outlay but do involve a lot of crafting, with plenty of opportunities for recycling too. What you will need is an assortment of lengths of different types of cord, and then you need to sit down with this book and follow the instructions on how to tie the knots. I have more than one book on this subject so have plenty for comparison and the combination of drawings and photographs here hits a good balance. Having the new parts of the knot added in each new stage shown in a different color is a good idea, as is showing the finished knot as a photograph. At the back are several projects for making various items of jewellery, plus a few UK and US suppliers. Highlights of this book that make it a good one include a double page spread on how to use it to the full, pages of what you need and why and items such as attaching findings and finishing off. I guess in a way it is a quintessential Search Press book, telling you what you need to know to make something in an attractive and informative way.
